Annie’s co-host Jessie Billauer founded the charity after suffering an injury to his spinal cord while training to be a professional surfer. Although his body was tragically affected by the accident his positive attitude to life helped to inspire others who have experienced tragedy and helped them to pick themselves up and move forward. Jesse has spoken about the charity Life Rolls On, in a number of television shows including; Good Morning America, Dateline and Extreme Make Over Home Edition.
The charity is dedicated to specifically improving the quality of life of young people affected by spinal cord injuries by using sports as medium through which to show kids that there are still an incredible amount of options open to them in their lives. The charity merged with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation in 2010. A huge number of celebrities are showing their support for the charity.
This isn’t the first time that Annie has gone all in for charity and has both played and organised charity poker events in the past for a whole host of worthy causes. Amongst other things Annie founded Ante up for Africa alongside actor Don Cheadle in 2007 and helped raise a staggering $4 million in aid money for Darfur. Duke isn’t shy about getting her poker pro buddies to get involved in the charity scene either. Such big names as Chris Ferguson, Phil Ivey, Joe Hachem, Michael Mizrachi, Erik Seidel, Howard Lederer, and Phil Gordon participated in the 2010 Ante up for Africa poker event. We are sure that the event will prove to be a fantastic event and raise plenty of money for a great cause!
