Within the last week two major online gambling operators, bwin and Microgaming, announced the launch of the first real money gambling applications for mobile phones
Two of the leading online casino operators have announced that they are releasing the first real money poker applications for the Apple iPhone. Within the last week both bwin, an online sports betting and poker developer, and Microgaming, the developer behind many online casinos, launched their iPhone applications.
Customers in the United Kingdom and Austria will have access to the bwin application. At present the company have not announced plans to extend the game into a wider market, but most industry experts are expecting that bwin will launch the application for other markets in Europe over the coming year.
There are also plans for bwin and PartyGaming, the world’s largest online casino, to merge later this year. PartyGaming cover a huge market with the PartyPoker online poker and PartyCasino online gaming sites. It is expected that bwin will be extending access to the PartyGaming customer base as well.
The director of mobile application development at bwin, Berthold Kao, has said that the iPhone poker application is extending the company’s lead in the mobile entertainment sector. He also said that the company is able to provide customers with a complete online gaming portfolio for their mobile devices.
The bwin application is decided to help novice players learn as they play, it will automatically display the best had and offer instant hand histories and of course has features to cope with incoming calls.
Microgaming has built their reputation through developing software for online casinos such as EuroPalace and Betway. The Director of Online Poker for Microgaming, Lydia Melton, has announced that “the technology is ready, the software is ready” and that they believe the players are also ready. It was also announced by Microgaming that they are currently developing an Android version of the real money application which will be released later this year. They will be demonstrating the application at the forthcoming ICE exhibition in London.
As mobile gaming becomes more popular and more consumers begin to use Smartphones many industry experts say that they are expecting real-money online gaming applications to become increasingly available over the coming year. However, there will be a bit of a battle, the Apple Application Store tends to reject online gambling applications and Google recently announced that real gambling will not be allowed within the Android market. One possible solution being explored by developers at the moment is to make all gambling applications browser based thereby circumnavigating the use of application stores.
