If you enjoy Poker then you will love the Aussie Millions tournament. Taking place this January, it is a must-see for all players. Get all the info on it here
The Aussie Millions is one of the largest and most anticipated international Poker events taking place each year within the gaming industry. Alongside the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker, it is also one of the most successful poker tournaments around. And with the next one taking place in only six weeks time, it is about time that anyone who is unfamiliar with it or not in-the-know about it, get to know it. So here is all you need to know about the Aussie Millions.
As the name implies, the Aussie Millions is a poker tournament that is cultivated and based in Australia. Gambling, and Poker specifically, is a rich industry down under, with practically all forms of online and offline gambling being legal, and as such also an important part of Aussie culture. This makes for the perfect setting for such a grand scale poker operation.
The Aussie Millions is held at Melbourne’s own Crown Casino each year throughout the month of January, kicking off the new year. I was first established 11 years ago (1998), and its first ever tournament included 10 international competitors (primarily from the neighbouring New Zealand), a guaranteed prize pool of $74,000, and a $1,000 buy-in. each year that has passed, the Aussie Millions Poker tournament has grown in both popularity and size, and today it has become the sixth largest international poker tournament on earth.
The 2009 Aussie Millions was a particularly successful year for the tourney, having broken records and exceeded all expectations. It involved 18 different Poker events, a No Limit Texas Hold’em Main Event for AUD$10,500, as well as a guaranteed first prize values at AUD$2 million. It was also the home of the “World’s Largest Cash Game,” which boasted a buy-in of AUD$1 million!
The upcoming 2010 Aussie Millions is expected to be even more lucrative. It is anticipated that more than 800 players will register for the AUD$10,500 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold’em Main Event alone, and in excess of 2,000 players for the championship events across the tourney as a whole. Of this number, close to 25% will be international players, and as such, there are generally about 8,000 rooms occupied at hotels across Melbourne during the period. The entire event will be televised and screened globally by Fox Sports Net. Be sure to be a part of it!
