If you thought buy-ins for major poker tournaments were designed for the rich and famous, think again. Read here how the Borgata Poker Open is making entry possible for everyone
Buying the buy-in for a major offline poker event usually means forking out a five figure number that these days especially, none of us can really afford. Yet the Borgata Poker Open is changing that; in the attempt to attract a new crowd of more casual players and make entry into this prestigious event more of a possibility to players, it has lowered its Main Event buy-in down to only $3,500 – a sum many will indeed find reasonable.
So far, the online poker community has been quite supportive of the Borgata Poker Open organizers' decision. Roy Winston, for example, a previous Borgata Poker Open winner (2007), explained that the move proves how dedicated the organization is to customer value, and how they are thus capable of adapting to the players' needs.
The Borgata Poker Open is also the cheapest poker tournament of its kind available. Its response to the current economic recession has differed from other poker tournament organizations, which have lowered their player caps and increased their buy-ins. Not only will the upcoming Borgata Poker open be the most affordable tourney, but it will also be one of the largest, expected to attract well over the 1000 players mark!
According go the Director of Poker Marketing at Atlantic City's Borgata, Ray Stefanelli, the casino has experienced great success among players with this sum at other events, claiming that it has already managed to reel in over 1000 players for non-televised events. With more than 1,200 currently lined up, camera crews, poker professionals and a guaranteed prize-pool of $2 million, he is confident it will work well again. "It makes sense," Stefanelli explicated, that more players compete for a smaller buy-in.
The Borgata Poker Open is scheduled to take place between the 9th and 24th of September 2009, with the 19th seeing the kick off of the Main Event. In addition to a six-handed event and a heads-up event all booked in as part of the schedule, players can expect to see many pros as well as local new talents hit the tables for what will be a highly accommodating tournament!
