Canada is about to enjoy online Poker in a whole new way, as a new Poker TV channel will soon be launched. All the details are available here
Online Poker is an industry which continues to develop and grow, consistently managing to push the boundaries regardless of whether its technology or entertainment. In line with this nature, it was only natural that Poker make a transition to television and put its foot in the door of televised gaming. Yet again, online Poker has taken the game to new heights, and soon a full time TV channel dedicated entirely to Poker will be launched in Canada.
The channel, to be called "Canadian Poker Player TV," is the initiative of HeadUp Entertainment International, proud owner of not only the Canadian Poker Player magazine, but also the highly anticipated Canadian Poker Tour (CPT) event. The new channel will be designed to program around-the-clock Poker-related content, such as event coverage, behind the scenes and payer interviews. According to the President of HeadsUp, Kelly Kellner, the aim in establishing a Poker channel is twofold; firstly, it will allow the company to profit from the four year investment it has made in television whilst also giving back to the sponsors of the CPT. Secondly, a Poker channel will further enable HeadsUp to strengthen its position in the international Poker industry. In addition, added Kellner, it will make it significantly easier for players and Poker enthusiasts to pursue their passion.
The Canadian Poker Player TV channel is scheduled to take off in early 2010, and will host in excess of twenty hours a day of Poker TV derived from many of the country's most anticipated events. Some of the shows already booked for air-time include behind the scenes of the CPT, and a documentary into the invite-only finals of the CPT> there are also many well known international Poker players lined up to appear on it, incluing Joe Hachem Phil Laak, Gavin Smith, Antonio Esfandiari, Roger Sarna, Brad Booth and Huck Seed.
Likewise, there are several major Poker brands that have signed on to sponsor the new Poker channel, something that has made Kellner particulrly confident about the ways in which it is being advertised. Possilby the largest and most recognised brand is that of 888.com, and according to Kellner, sponsors too will be able to benefit from a full time Poker channel by exploiting the ability to reach wide audiences in real time.
