Despite being one of the leading online high stakes poker players, Tom Dwan has fallen further behind is his latest challenge.

Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan and Daniel ‘jungleman12’ Cates are locked in the middle of the latest Durrr Challenge, they took a week rest but resumed last Monday and have played another 958 hands of poker brining their total to 6,820.

Once again Cates came out ahead of Dwan having made $172,954 profit which takes his lead up to $692,400. Whilst they are only 14% of their way through the challenge, but Dwan has started out on the wrong foot whilst Cates is doing well having won over 60% of the hands played.

During the last session Cates won two six figure pots. The first came when Cates raised to $1,200, Dwan then re-raised to $3,600 before Cates called. The flop came down with five of spades and diamonds and a four of diamonds, Dwan then bet $4,800 and Cates called. Dwan fired $11,200 after the Ace of Hearts came up on the turn and then Cates called again. There was a Queen of Spades on the river and Dwan went all in, Cates called with Ace and Ten of Spades for the top pair and all Dwan had was a 3 and 8 of diamonds with which he was hoping for a flush draw. Cates took the $122,377.50 pot and Dwan was left with just over $20,000 in his stack.
Cates also won a $115,000 pot with a pair of aces which improved to the nut flush on the river. However, Cates didn’t take all the big pots, Dwan won $131,588.50 having raised to $1,200 leaving $75,000 behind, Cates called and left $64,000 in his stack. The flop showed King of Hearts, 8 of Diamonds and 3 of Spades, Cates checked, Dwan bet $2,000 and Cates called. The turn produced the Ten of Hearts and Cates checked once more before calling Dwan’s $5,200 bet. The river was the 2 of Spades and Cates checked once more. Dwan bet $12,000, Cates raised to $40,000 and Dwan went all in for just $17,000 more. Cates called and lost when Dwan showed the Ten of spades and Clubs.

If Dwan is feeling down about the past week he should have a look at his fellow Red Professional Gus Hansen, just a few weeks after being shown to be one of the least profitable high stakes players on Full tilt Poker Hansen lost $1.1 million to Cole South and Phil Ivey. On the other hand, despite being behind in the challenge, Dwan is still up well over $3 million at Full Tilt this year.
