The Combo Draw in Pot-Limit Omaha
The combo draw is one of the ultimate weapons at a player’s disposal during a game of Pot-Limit Omaha. The key thing to remember is that Omaha is a game of draws which means that you need to play hands which will allow you to flop multiple draws and ultimately let you win the pot. The following tips will guide you through some of the most important aspects of the game and talk you through the key features which make Pot-Limit Omaha one of the best poker experiences around.
Combo Potential
• Play a hand with combo –draw potential.
• If you have four consecutive cards (e.g. 5-6-7-8) you have a good chance of flopping a straight draw or even a wrap straight draw which gives you multiple straight draws with your single hand.
Looking out for suits
• If you have 2 suited cards, you are in with a good chance of flopping a flush draw.
• Double suited hands will double your odds.
• If you have 2 flush draws, you will get 18 outs which you can flush on the river.
Using your combinations
• Take advantage of 4 card connection and double suits.
• You’ll need these to flop draws or nuts in order to make the most of them but these will give you a goof shot of getting the best hand possible.
• Remember that many players will raise with double-suited, double-connected hands.
Selecting your flops
• You are allowed to choose which flops you want to play.
• Remember that hands such as two pair on the flop will be weak if you cannot pair them with a redraw.
• The greater the number of draws, the greater the number of outs and blockers you will be able to hold.
• A hand with a single draw will restrict you to nine outs.
• Also note that you can’t see your opponent’s hand. Players have double the number of cards in Omaha as in Hold'em which means that it is more likely that the opposition will have at least some of your outs.
• Don’t hold on to a hand with only nine outs. Give yourself the option for multiple draws.
• Play for the best hand possible not for the flop.
