The Latin American Poker Tour, one of this year’s most anticipated Poker events, recently came to a close with the Main Event taking place. Held at Costa Rica on the 22nd of November, the remaining 8 out of 259 competitors battled it out for the ultimate title. There as a total prize pool of no less than $628,075 up for grabs, with a hefty $172,095 set aside for the first place winner.
The eight players who took part in the tournament’s final table were: Carlos Giron, Rogelio Pardo, Eric Levesque, Sol Bergren, Patrick de Koster, Francis Nicolas Bouchard, Darren Keyes and Amer Sulaiman. The majority of the players were from Canada, with only one being a Costa Rica local. Sulaiman finished in first place and took home the grand prize, whilst Bergren, Pardo and Levesque finished behind him in second, third and fourth places respectively.
Koster went in to the $2,500 No Limit Hold’em table with A-7 in the preflop, yet was quickly eliminated by Levesque who held pocket Queens. It was another two hours before Giron became the next player to lose out. He was in the preflop with A-9, yet when a Queen was dealt on the flop, Bergren’s suited Q-J beat him. Giron left the table with just over $20k. Keyes too fell short several minutes later, when his A-7 lost to Amer Sulaiman’s A-K in the River, with 3-6-7-8-K out on the board.
Approximately 60 minutes later, Bouchard took the next hit. He was confident when he went all in with K-9, yet Sulaiman surprised him with pocket Aces and took the hand when an extra Ace was dealt out to the table. Bouchard left with more than $30k.
The battle then was between Levesque and Bergren. Levesque raised to 700,000 wit A-Q, yet came crashing down when Bergren raised all-in with pocket 8’s to win a pot worth more than 2 million! Bergren also eliminated Pardo in the next hand with pocket 5’s against an A-3.
The final battle between Bergren and Sulaiman was heated, and saw them go head-to-head for 3 hours and a near 3 million jackpot!Bergren held a 7-6 to Sulaiman’s 10-7, yet when the Turn and River showed A-Q, Sulaiman’s hand reigned. His win was the largest yet of his career.
