David Peters has been playing poker consistently for the last few years, however, only this year, during which he won $1,392,411 has he received his deserved recognition.
This year poker professional David “dpeters17” Peters had his breakout year. The 23 year old from Ohio has made a massive $1,392,411 this year, solidifying his place as a known name on the online and live circuit after a few years of consistent play. Most recently Peters won the $5,000 heads-up event at the PokerStars North American Poker Tour Los Angeles and took home $112,257. He is currently in 16th place for the Card Player Player of the year Race (POY).
Peters started playing poker as an 18 year old in high school. He began with online freerolls and won his first one for $600. Since then he has never looked back. Peters built up his games starting with $5 sit-and-gos, slowly amassing a bankroll and then moved on to multi-table tournaments. Peters did well in tournaments and whilst studying at Bowling Green University he soon found that his poker success was distracting him from his studies. After a year and a half of business studies he decided to leave college and focus on the poker.
Since leaving college Peters has put together one of the best poker careers on the planet which ultimately has lead him to finding a backing deal, this means he can be secure during the not so successful poker times. For the last two years he has been backed by Bryn Kenney for all live tournaments, however, Kenny hasn’t had to contribute much, over the last year Peters has made some of his largest wins. At this year’s WSOP Peters finished second in a $1,000 no-limit hold’em event and took home $350,903, he has also won at the European Poker Tour, at Full Tilt Poker FTOPS event and also at the NAPT L.A.
Peters’ career earnings now total over $3 million and he is finally started to be recognised as the excellent player he really is. Whilst he isn’t yet a big name he is being recognised on the poker circuit and the other players are beginning to seriously respect him. He said that he likes to keep an eye on the Card Player POY award, whilst he is far from the lead at the moment, he could still win it if he managed to win a few main events that are still left in this calendar year. Be sure to keep an eye on this man as follow his career, it should be long and exciting.
