Tom Dwan and Dan ‘jungleman12’ Cates have continued their Durrrr Challenge, whilst Dwan is still behind; he managed to close the gap significantly winning $63,362.
Last week Tom Dwan and Dan ‘jungleman12’Cates resumed their Durrrr Challenge and played 1,214 hands of $200/$400 no limit Hold’em. Dwan came out of the session having made a profit of $63,362.
It was by far the most action packed session of their challenge to date, at one point Dwan was actually up about $345K and was only about $200K behind in the challenge. Unfortunately for him things soon turned around, even though the gap has dropped now from around $800K down to about $500K it would be surprising if Dwan is not now feeling a little disappointed that he lost vast amounts of money towards the end of the session.
Dan “jungleman12” Cates won the largest pot of the session which was $210K after he was dealt 8h 7h on the big blind and Dwan had 9h 5h. Dwan raised the betting pre-flop first to $1,200 and then up to $14,500 after Cates had re-raised to $5,200. The flop produced 9s, 3d and 6s, Dwan bet $17,800 and Cates check-called it. Cates then hit a straight with a 5d turn card and check called once more after Dwan had gone all in with a bet of $166,776 using his remaining $72,891. Dwan was holding two pair but was not helped at all on the river and subsequently lost the huge pot.
But it wasn’t all bad for Dwan he did win the second biggest pot of $189,953 after the flop gave him a set of fours, he also won pots of $146K and $142K before his luck turned and he began to lose his profits.
To make things even worse, during the last half hour Dwan had a problem with his internet connection which meant that he was unable to place a $34,000 value bet with his nut flush on the river, Cates would have been certain to call this as he was holding two pair.
Cates then decided to wind Dwan up a little bit and they had the following conversation:
jungleman12: i thought it was pretty cool
durrrr: nice douchebag comment ty
jungleman12: joking obv
durrrr: pretty off timing
durrrr: to joke
durrrr: after running pretty sick for 20min and then my 1st internet messup in days it checks behind nut flush vs ur 2p which obv autocalls
durrrr: but w/e enjoy the needle play later
jungleman12: gg
Despite the fact that had a bad run at the end of the session and lost some money, Dwan will probably be walking away from the session feeling fairly positive as he did almost manage to even out the Durrrr Challenge II in one sitting.
