Looking for a different kind of game to play? Try Deuce to Seven Triple Draw, where the twist is you need the lowest hand to win!
Once you understand the basic rules, Deuce to Seven Triple Draw is quite a simple game to get into. It shares some basic similarities with the hold'em game, giving anyone who's familiar with on-line gaming a head start. However, a major difference between Deuce to Seven Triple Draw and a regular high game is the hand rankings. Because the aim of this game is to have the lowest possible hand, it is important to understand the rankings:
- aces are high, deuces are low;
- straights and flushes count against you;
- the best hand you can have is a 23457 with no flush;
- the worst is a Royal Flush
- triples are worse than pairs, straights are worse than both of these and flushes are the worst ranking hand of all!
Let's look at the some examples: the hand 23457 is called a wheel, and is the best hand of the game. The next best hand after this is 23467 (called Number 2), followed by 23567 (number 3). The best possible Ace-low you can make carries the name Nut Ace – 2345A. It follows a logical order after this: 23458 is a Nut 8, and 23459 is a Nut 9.
The game always begins with the player to the left of the dealer and follows in that order. This player begins by posting a small live blind and the player to their left posts a live big blind. Once the cards are dealt and the first round of betting begins with the player to the left of the big blind.
The game is has a maximum of six players and each player is dealt five cards. There follows three draws, when each player can discard zero to five cards. After a player has discarded their cards, they will be dealt replacement ones from the deck. The players discarded cards will then go into the muck. If there are not enough remaining cards in the deck to complete the round, the dealer will take the discarded cards from the muck, reshuffle them and continue to deal the hand. Because the muck only consists of cards discarded from previous rounds and from players who have received replacement cards, there is no chance a player can receive a card they discarded on that particular round. After each draw there is a betting round, and the game finishes with a final betting round after the third draw.
