Looking to spice up your 5 Card Draw game? Try out Dogbutt Poker – with 2 kinds of wild cards it's sure to do the trick! Find Dogbutt Poker rules here.
Dogbutt Poker is a relatively simple game to learn. It's rules are more or less the same as those of 5 Card Draw Poker, so for anyone already familiar with the game, learning Dogbutt Poker will be an absolute breeze. With wild cards and 5 card hands, it's one of the most enjoyable variations out there to play. So follow the rules listed below to take you through the steps of the game…
1. The blinds are placed – blinds are small mandatory bets that are designed to build up the pot before the game starts.
a. The player on the dealer's immediate left places the small blind (half the lower limit).
b. The next left-most player of the dealer places the big blind (the lower limit).
2. Each player is now dealt 5 face-down cards.
3. The first round of betting takes place, beginning with the player who is left of the big blind. Players are allowed to check, bet, call or fold their cards.
4. Now players are given the option to discard as many cards as they wish, even all 5 if they choose. Discarding cards is not mandatory, and players who choose to maintain all their original cards are 'staying'.
5. A second round of betting takes place, again beginning with the player left-most of the big blind. Players are allowed to check, bet, call or fold their cards.
6. Now it is time for the showdown, where all players still in the game must reveal their hands so that a winner can be determined. The winning hand is the best 5 card hand according to standard poker hand rankings.
So far this has been a standard 5 Card Draw hand. The difference between regular 5 Card Draw and Dogbutt Poker lies in the values of the hands. Whilst the winning hand combinations remain the same, cards 3 and 9 can be used as wild cards to make winning a whole lot more achievable! With 8 different wild cards up for grabs, there are many more flushes and straights at the showdown than usual, making this a highly suitable game for beginners, as well as anyone who would like to spice up their favorite poker game!
