Check out the latest on the European Poker Tour Prague, where one player was declared winner of the tourney, cash and Grand final seat! All details here
The European Poker Tour (EPT) has ended its rounds in Prague, with the winner taking home more than just a fancy title. Local Poker player, Jan Skampa, was declared the final winner of the tourney, and was awarded a trophy, €682, 000 in prize money, a 1st place in the all-time money listing of the Czech Republic, and of course a seat at the European Poker Tour’s Grand Final.
The event was quite star studded with regards to Poker talent, as some of the world’s best managed to make it down to compete. Yet Skampa was the only player to place in back to back European Poker Tour tables since the 1st season. This is in addition to the fact that only last month he came in 4th place at the Vilamoura, an impressive win in itself.
The 8th place was set quickly when Sven Eichelbaum lost his A-J to the paired Aces of Larry Ryan, leaving with €50,000 in prize money. Shortly after, Gustav Ekerot made that same mistake, and feel short to Eyal Avitan’s hand for a 7th place prize of €71,000.
The event favorite, Luca Pagano, who has previously player 5 EPT tables, was locked in at 6th place after Stefan Mattsson drew pocket Queens to his A-J. Yet the blow wasn’t too hard, since he got to leave with a hefty €100,000. Mattsson then took down Ryan for €135,000, who lost with his big blind Jacks to Mattsson’s small blind Aces.
By this stage, Mattsson held more than half of the chips on the table, yet this lead was short lived. Skampa took over when he downplayed Mattsson’s pocket Queens with his Kings. This put him in stark contrast to Anthony Roux, who at this time had a significantly low chip stack. He quickly lost to 4th place when Avitan pulled an A-K to his pocket 10’s, and sent him home with €171,000.
The battle was now between Skampa, Mattson and Avitan. It took three hours for someone to cave, yet Mattson’s stack lost its shape eventually, and his flopped straight left him with €255,000 for 3rd place. It took an additional 3 hours for Skampa and Avitan to end the event, through which their chip stacks, changed frequently. It was Skampa in the end, though, who managed to pull through, and sent Avitan packing for €454,000.
