Catch up on the latest poker pro win here. This time it comes from the World Poker Tour Festo al Lago, where Tommy Vedes took home over a million dollars
The tricky New York Poker professional, Tommy Vedes, has just been crowned the winner of the World Poker Tour Festo al Lago. After a long and interesting battle at the tables, Vedes managed to defeat the many players against him as he snatched up a life changing jackpot worth no less than a whopping $1,218,225! Vedes now has close to two million dollars to his name in poker winnings, with titles not only from the World Poker Tour but also from the Deep Stack Extravaganza and the World Poker Open. Vedes has already won $352,832 this year in poker winnings, and much more can be expected from this new star.
Vedes put on a highly entertaining performance at the tables that kept the audience guessing all throughout. Filled with thrills and spills, 275 poker players made it to the event, only to see Vedes take on Freddy Deeb, Shawn Cunix, Jason Lavallee, Jason Burt and Craig Crivello at the final table after only a few days of play. It took over an hour for the first player to be eliminated from the table, with Vedes defeating Cunix, who left the table with an honorable $168,970. Jason Burt was the next player to go, yet also earned an impressive $208,725 just by losing to Freddy Deeb. Deeb himself head home with a hefty $278,300 and a fourth place placing. In third it was Craig Crivello, who won close to half a million dollars for his placing in the tournament.
The final battle between Vedes and Lavallee was indeed tense, and saw Vedes luckily wriggle out of some very sticky situations along the way. It took him approximately 161 hands to make it to first place, which he entered from second with a 6 to 1 lead with regards to playing chips. His opponent, Lavallee, walked away from it all with $795, 150. Funnily enough, in the end, all that separated the two from victory was a pocket fives against a pocket fours. Tommy Vedes, originally from Queens, New York, was awarded with the amazing grand prize of $1, 218,225, as well as a guaranteed seat at the highly anticipated World Poker Tour Championships, worth an enormous $25,000!
