Fish and Chip Showdown

The 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure contains a new event combining fishing with poker, in the Fish and Chip Showdown players will fish for points before taking to the poker tables

PokerStars have decided to uniquely combine poker and fishing tournaments and created the ‘Fish and Chip Showdown’ which will be taking place during the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. The competition will require the participants to succeed at both the poker table and in a fishing challenge to be declared the overall winner.

The event will begin with a fishing round on January 6th which will be run mainly according to IGFA rules. Competitors will fish for four hours across a fifty mile radius; they will be aiming to catch sailfish, marlin, Dorado, yellow fin tuna and wahoo. Each participant will have to bring their own bait and there are special rules in place to ensure that as many fish survive as possible. For every bullfish (sailfish and marlin) that they catch players will receive 150 points, for all the other fish which are caught points shall be awarded based upon how much the fish weighs.

The points each player earn in the fishing section of the competition will account for 1/3rd of the event. The remaining 2/3rds of the score will be awarded through the poker competition which will run the next day.

Entrance to this unique event costs $2,300 which will be split between three separate prize pools. $900 of the entry will go to the poker pot and $400 will go to fishing prizes, the remaining $1,000 will be awarded to the event’s overall winner.

This is not the first time that PokerStars has created an experimenatal hybrid event. Last summer when the European Poker Tour stopped in Vilamoura they held a “Fairways and Felts” event. Here players could earn poker chips for use in a tournament the next day through their performance on a golf course. Fourteen players decided to enter this competition and in the end it was won by Daniel Negreanu.

The 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure begins on the 6th of next month and the Main Event will be taking place from January 8th until January 14th. Some of the events are going to be televised including the Main Event and a North American Poker Tour Bounty Shootout tournament which is running from January 15th to the 16th. You can win places for various events through a number of satellites which are currently running on PokerStars.com and a number of other online poker rooms.
