5 Card Stud is a simpler version of 7 Card Stud, with only 4 betting rounds, 1 face down hole card, and 4 up cards. The objective of the game is to make the best possible 5 card combination, which is determined according to standard hand rankings. Here you can learn all the rules that constitute a 5 Card Stud game, as well as terminology and a game overview.
5 Card Stud is very similar to 7 Card Stud Poker, only as the name implies, each player is dealt 5 cards instead of 7. The objective is to make the best 5 card hand possible. This is achieved by using all of the 5 cards dealt to each player throughout the betting rounds. There are 4 betting rounds in 5 Card Stud, and during each round the players must bet on the possibility of their hand having the strongest card combination, so that they may win the sum of all the bets made throughout the game, known as the “pot”. Player’s hands are ranked according to standard Poker hand rankings, and betting is limited to a predetermined amount always.
Game play Antes - a compulsory small bet of 1/5 of the lower betting limit is usually used in 5 Card Stud games, called “antes”. The percentage amount depends on the betting limits. Initial deal – each player is deal 1 card face down (a “hole” card), and 1 card face up (an “up card”). The player with the lowest showing card by suit must “bring-in” (place the first bet of the first round), and following players can either call or raise up to the lower betting limit, or fold. Players are limited to a maximum of 4 bets, or 1 bet and 3 raises. 3rd Street – Once all players have bet the same amount, each player is dealt a 3rd card face up. A new round of betting follows, and the player with the 2 strongest up cards must start the betting, which is limited to the lower betting amount. 4th Street – each player receives a 4th card face up, and the betting rounds are now limited to the higher betting amount. 5th Street – a 5th face up card is dealt to every player, and a final round of betting begins until all bets have been equalized. Showdown - all players must reveal their cards to determine the winner. The last player to bet their hand’s strength will reveal first, and other players will follow in a clockwise direction. If a player’s hand is weaker than those already revealed, he/she may “muck” - discard the cards without revealing them. The player with the winning 5 card hand is awarded the pot, and the game concludes.Top-Rated Poker Rooms Based on Player Reviews
