New plans proposed by a New Jersey governor will see the state watching over the casinos and gambling industry in general within the state
At the moment in New Jersey the gambling industry is in a mess, as a results, the casino owners and the representatives have welcomed the news that the state may be considering scheme by which they will watch over the casino district and try to increase visitors to the casino district and areas such as Atlantic City.
Frank J. Fahrenkopf, the President and Chief Executive of the American Gaming Association said that the group will be backing Governor Chris Christie’s plans for the state watch of casinos and has said that he will do everything he can do ensure that the new proposal is processed by the correct people as soon as possible so that it can be turned into law.
In a recent statement he said, “We applaud the governor’s efforts to boost tourism and visitation to all of the area’s attractions, including our casinos. We will be watching closely as the state Legislature addresses Gov. Christie’s proposals in the weeks and months ahead. We anticipate a bright future for the region.”
Part of the plan includes improving tourist facilities within the gambling areas of New Jersey and also tackling crime to ensure that visitors to the casinos do feel threatened during their stay.
Of course not everyone is backing the new plans as whole heartedly and there has been some fairly strong opposition to the proposal from a number of different sectors. There is a group which calls itself the ‘Stop Predatory Gambling Foundation’ which have claimed that part of the government’s job is to protect citizens from scams and also from con men, they said that “the biggest scam artist and con man in the country is the gambling industry’.
The group also attacked Atlantic city pointing out the big difference in quality of life within the casino and the surrounding areas, “It’s had a reputation of being one of the biggest, most glitzy gambling areas in this country that is surrounded by wasteland. I think most people who have visited have noticed the slums surrounding the casinos. It’s pretty depressing.”
