Gardena Jackpots is a form of Draw poker that employs a few interesting changes. It is a fun variation of the standard game, and can be played at home with friends.
The course of the game is as follows:
1. Jokers are wild cards!
2. All players ante up, but no blinds are used.
3. All players are dealt their hand, yet they can only place a bet if it includes a pair of jacks or better. Once a bet is made, players can pass or fold, but if no bet is made, a new hand is dealt for the same pot. In many home games, it is common for each player to place a new ante, and raise the qualifier to pen to a pair of Queens. If there is again no betting, it is raised to a pair of Kings, and then to a pair of Aces. For this reason it is sometimes called "progressive Jackpots". Often, the player that opens holds onto his/her discarded cards to prove to his/her opponents that their bet was justified and legal. When a player "breaks openers", he/she is discarding one of their pair cards to make a better hand, yet will keep it for the same purpose of proving they had the pair.
4. Players can now call, bet or raise, but only before the dealer has him/herself placed their bet.
5. Cards can be replaced by discarding unwanted ones face down to the dealer, in order to make a better hand.
6. The dealer now starts dealing replacement cards. A new round of betting takes place and players can call or fold the last raise. The dealer always gets the final raise, though.
7. At the Showdown the player's hands are revealed, and the best hand according to standard hand rankings takes the pot.
