High Low Pig Poker

If your regular poker comps are getting a bit repetitive, you might want to consider adding a funky new twist to brighten them up. High Low Pig is a competitive little rotation made to the traditional 5 Card Stud, and will completely turn your game around!

Ever thought of adding a fun twist to your traditional poker variants? Well, High Low Pig does exactly that, and will make playing 5 Card Stud that little bit more exciting. The following overviews the general course of a 5 Card Stud game including the High low Pig addition:

* In high Low 5 Card Stud, the pot is split between a high ranking hand and a low ranking hand. High hands are ranked according to standard poker hand ranking. To qualify for the low hand, one must produce a 5 card hand comprised of cards not exceeding a value of 8. An Ace is counted as either a high or a low card.

1. Game play begins with one up card being dealt to each player, and one face down card. If bring-ins are used, then the player with the lowest showing up card must pay the bring in before betting can proceed. The player with the highest ranking up card may check if no bring in is used, and betting follows.
2. A second up card is dealt to each player and betting follows as regular; players may check, raise, bet, call, etc.
3. In Fourth Street, a third up card is dealt to all remaining players and there is another round of betting.
4. In the River round of betting, a final up card is dealt to the remaining players.
5. The Showdown gives the final players the opportunity to call “pig” before revealing their hands. If a player yells ‘pig’, he/she is attempting to win both the high and low hand, and if the hands do not win in both the high and low ranks, the player wins nothing. If they both do, the player wins both ends of the pot!
