Islidur1 joins PokerStars

PokerStars have signed a deal with Islidur1, over the next month he will be taking part in a special challenge where players can take him on in a heads up.

The mysterious high stakes poker player known as ‘Isildur1’ has signed a contract to become a member of Team PokerStars Pro. He has played for some of the largest pots ever seen in online poker and this deal comes after weeks of speculation over which site he would end up signing with.

PokerStars have also announced that their new team member will be taking part in a special heads-up challenge. The challenge known as the ‘Superstar Showdown’ gives players the opportunity to take on Isildur1 heads up over a session of 2,500 hands. The players will play four tables of No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha. The blinds on each table won’t be lower than $50/$100 and the winner will be the player who busts the others or has the lead at the end of the session.

So far PokerStars have not announced any players who are willing to take on this challenge, but players who are interested should email showdown@pokerstars.com. However, PokerStars will only be considering serious applicants for the showdowns. The first showdown takes place on December 19th and will be followed by weekly matches. There are also qualifying tournaments which will give at least one player the chance to play Isildur1 in a $5/$10 match.

Isildur1 first became known in late 2009 after he began to take on top professional players on Full Tilt Poker in games with extremely high stakes. Since then his swings of fortune have become famous, there are some weeks when he wins millions and others where he loses them.

However, the most fascinating thing about Isildur1 has always been the mystery of his identity. The one thing that is known for certain is that he is a Swedish player so there has been much speculation around Viktor Blom, a young Swedish player who seems to fit Isildur1’s profile perfectly. However, Blom has not confirmed that he is Isildur1 so it remains speculation.

Because Isildur1 became famous playing at Full Tilt Poker many people are surprised at his decision to sign with PokerStars. However, in a blog post on PokerStars Isildur1 made it clear that he is looking forward to playing on the site. He said that he chose it because it is the “biggest site and it will be an exciting challenge”, he also said that he is pleased to be playing with Daniel Negreanu, Dario Minieri and Johnny Lodden.
