Last month the Italian Poker Tour stopped at the Casino Sanremo for the San Remo 3 tournament, the main event was won by previously unknown player Antonio Caponnetto
Recently the Casino Sanremo hosted the Italian Poker Tour San Remo 3 tournament. The final table began on December 14th with Antonio Caponnetto in the lead and Riccardo Lacchinelli not too far behind.
In the end Caponnetto won the tournament with a lucky final hand, he was holding Queen and Ten of Clubs with the board showing Three of Hearts, Jack of Clubs and Three of Clubs. Caponnetto went all in before realising that he was behind Lacchinelli’s Three of Diamonds and 2 of Spades. Neither player was helped by the turn but the river produced the Eight of Clubs giving Caponnetto a flush and the tournament.
In order to win Caponnetto had to overcome a field of 342 players over the course of five days, the prize pool was €663,420 and Caponnetto took home €170,000 of it. Lacchinelli in second place was awarded €110,000. This was the first time that Caponnetto had won a major live tournament event and his success is sure to grow from here.
The Italian Poker Tour is sponsored by PokerStars and had its first season in 2009. Last year’s tour saw stops in San Marino, Venezia, San Remo, Nova Gorica and Malta. Over the course of the tour millions of Euros were won and a number of new names rose to prominence. The events are open to all and there a number of satellites with buy ins starting from just a few Euros at the PokerStars.it website. There are a number of stops left in the current tour. Next week they shall be visiting Campione between January 20th and 24th, the Main Event has a buy in of €2000 + €200 and there are a number of other events taking place at the Campione Casino including a special ladies event. Next month, from the 17th – 21st of February, the tour is stopping at the Portomaso Casino in Malta. This stop has a very similar structure to the stop at Campione, with the addition of a special prize for the final player to be knocked out before prizes are awarded, they shall receive six nights accommodation for two at the Hotel Bes and Spa in Claviere. The final stop of the tour is at Norva Gorica from March 17th to 21st at the Perla Casino where the final Main Event shall take place.
