Limit Texas Holdem

Limit Texas Holdem is only slightly different from regular Texas Holdem Poker, yet the strategy required to play it is very different. Although it is a very popular casino game, many players are unable to succeed in the long term, or simply do not know how to play correctly or to their advantage. Here we will explain the course of a Limit Texas Holdem game, and point out its differences from other Poker variants, in order to assist your decision making process when playing.

What should first and foremost be understood is that in Limit Texas Holdem, or “Fixed Limit Texas Holdem”, a maximum of four bets is allowed per player, during any betting round. Such bets include regular bets, a raise, a re-raise, and a “cap” (a final raise). This specified betting limit is the only difference between Limit Texas Holdem and other Poker variants - all other Texas Holdem rules remain the same.

If you are playing at a $2-4 Limit table, the small blind will be $1 and the big blind will be $2. Throughout the course of the game, you are limited only to the following options:

1. Each player may raise only 3 times throughout the course of a single game.
2. Betting increments in the Pre-flop and Flop rounds are consistently $2.
3. Players can only bet or raise during the Pre-flop betting round.
4. Betting increments in the Turn and River rounds are consistently $4.
5. Players can only bet or raise during the Turn and River betting rounds.

The game of Limit Texas Holdem is advantageous in that it allows players to exploit very slight edges from lesser skilled players. However, it is also quite tricky, as it is difficult to stay consistently profitable. On average, an intermediate player will gain approximately 1 big bet per hour.

Usually, the key to playing Limit Texas Holdem is playing aggressively. Playing few starting hands and taking advantage of positional strategy is the most beneficial way to play. The most important decisions, as many players are unaware of, are made during the Pre-flop and Flop betting rounds, which allow one to take control of many pots in the early stages of the game.

Most Texas Holdem tables are dedicated to the Limit variant, yet very few skilled players are able to make decent profit from long term playing.
