Live Poker Tournaments

Playing offline is a very different experience from playing online poker tournaments. Despite more passive and less aggressive play, the excitement is overwhelming and usually, addictive.

Just like online poker tournaments, offline or “live” poker tournaments can be played in a variety of ways. All the types of live poker tournaments can be viewed at online poker tournaments, as the games are played with the exact same rules – it is only rules based on the environment that change. We will, however, explain the unique nature of playing offline tournaments, and the aspects that may differ from an online tournament.

Contrary to what many believe, the skill level of offline poker players in general is much poorer than those who play online. This is mainly because online players have more and easier access to regular game play and practicing. The speed of online poker play is also much faster, and they are thus able to play more hands per hour at a fast pace. Although offline players may be more cunning, the tournaments themselves are generally played a lot slower as a result. Additionally, because of the fewer hands played, there are less blinds to steal and defend, and consequently less blinds-pay money available to win.

Offline poker tournaments experienced a huge boom in popularity when some big tournaments, such as the World Series of Poker, were first televised. The camera allowed viewers to see each player’s hole cards, and the thrill of suspecting a bluffing player whilst holding a higher hand drew people to the sport. People were attracted to the suspense, and in a short time offline poker tournaments had become the latest craze. In this respect, it is safe to say that playing offline is far more exciting than isolated online play.
