Learn how to play Longhand Limit Texas Hold’em like a pro with this helpful poker strategy, teaching you how to pick starting hands and pursue them, plus more.

If you are a beginner poker player of Longhand Limit Texas Hold’em and are interested in improving your game, then this is the poker strategy for you. It is intended specifically to benefit those playing lower limits of up to $4.

Poker strategy for starting hands:
The main mistake that most beginner players make occurs in the preflop when they pursuer too many starting hands. Since Longhand Limit Hold’em requires primarily patience, knowing which cards to pursue is often a case of waiting for the best to be dealt to you. There are several ways for knowing what these are, and the most popular are listed below:
  1. The best hands are always AA, KK, QQ, JJ and AK. If you receive any of these card combos then your poker strategy will be to raise them in the preflop, spending more the higher they are. The only time that these cards shouldn’t be pursued is if you are sure that another player has a higher combo – such as if you have JJ and they have AA.
  2. Good starting hands are KQ, AQ, TT and 99, yet they will often need to be strengthened by the board cards. These hands should be played in most cases, especially when there are few players left in the game. However, be careful no to re-raise early. Also, the poker strategy outlines that re-raising 3 times is dangerous since you want to preserve your advantage when going into the flop.
  3. Reasonable hands are KJ, AJ, AT, JT, QT, QJ and 88. They are reasonable because they are good but can easily be beaten if someone else has a higher combo. They should be pursued in poker strategy when they are suited and when you are in a late position at the table (so that you can know the other player’s direction).
  4. Potentially good hands are Ace with a small card, suited K7, pocket pairs lower than 8, and suited adjacent cards (such as 9,8 or 7,6). These cards are often missed in the flop, yet have the potential to become Flushes, Straights or Trips. For this reason you should pursue them when there are many people in the pot and your payoff will be at its highest.
