Day 2B saw a number of players stacks grow to over 300,000 and of course a number of other players fell to the side
Day 2B of the World Series of Poker Main Event came to a close after 8 hours of play with David Assouline leading the pack with 387,000. Whilst it was a short day there was plenty of action with Assouline, Ricardo Fasanaro, Matt Reed and Jim Collopy all building stacks of over 300,000.
Collopy who plays as “MrBigQueso” online had a very quiet start to the day however, towards the end he had a bit of a surge and took his stack up to 305,000. Jon Van Fleet also made his move late in the day building his stack to 295,000.
The new Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst also had a good day, she looked as if she’d hit the 300,000 mark as well and in the end settled with 265,000. She was in an excellent position with pocket aces all-in preflop whilst her opponent had Ace and King of Spades. The board produced [kc 2s 2h 7q qd] and Selbst won the pot. Selbst also won a bag of jerky as part of Jack Link’s Beef Jerky promotion.
For much of the day Gabriel Walls was chip leader with 400,000 but in the end he had fallen to 241,000. The Team PokerStars Pros players Florian Langmann, Jason Mercier, Jan Heitmann, William Thorson and Vanessa Rousso al made it through the day with a good number of chips.
However, it wasn’t a successful day for all, many players including George Danzer, Phil Ivey, Todd Brunson, David Baker, John Phan, Gavin Griffin, J.C. Tran, Doyle Brunson, Jon Little fell to the side.
The most dramatic hand of the day was probably between Prahlad Friedman and Ted Bort. Apparently, Bort shoved against Friedman and then called a clock when he couldn’t decide what to do. As the clock was counting down it seemed that Friedman called all-in with one second remaining, however, neither the dealer nor the floor heard him and killed his hand at zero. The whole table protested including Bort, who tabled what was the best hand. Friedman would have been eliminated however; in the end both players will be alive for Day 3.
There are probably a few more days of play before we see any money in this Main Event, all the players will be competing intensely over the next day or two to ensure that they see a return of their $10,000 investment, it will certainly be an exciting competition to watch.
