Poker may become an entertainment available 24/7 on television with a Canadian company now considering starting a poker channel. All the details on this exciting possibility here
Poker has made its mark on practically every medium platform available, but there is yet to be seen a 24/7 poker television station. One entertainment company based in Canada plans on changing that, and is already in the process of discussing the possibility of launching a TV channel dedicated entirely to Poker-related content.
HeadsUp Entertainment has announced that by the end of 2009, a poker TV channel will be up and running for Canadians. To be called "CanadianPokerPlayer.tv," this 24/7 poker channel will offer players and poker fans the opportunity to enjoy an innovative and useful way of staying in touch with all things to do with the game. The President of HeadsUp Entertainment, Kelly B. Kellner, has stated that the company could not be more enthusiastic about the decision.
HeadsUp Entertainment seems the perfect candidate for the position of running a full time poker TV channel. Not only is it a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange, but it is also the owner of both the Canadian Poker Tour and Canadian Poker Player Magazine. HeadsUp has already lined up sufficient sponsorships for the upcoming channel, and plans to include at least 20 hours a day of original Canadian poker programming in the channel's content output. This will feature memorable games from the Canadian Open Poker Championships from the last four years, poker-related movies and live feeds from various poker events happening within the country. The remaining air-time will be dedicated to quality poker shows taken from other parts in the world. According to Kellner, the new TV Poker channel will include many "watch and win promotions" and find original ways of encouraging players and poker fans to tune in regularly. There are already two original poker productions being made specifically for the channel.
Kellner added that this is the first time a full time poker TV channel of this kind will be launched in North America. The nearest thing to it is the "Poker Channel" featured in the UK, and HeadsUp will be using it as a basis for its plans. In addition, since many of the world's greatest poker players are originally Canadian, it could also be a great opportunity to bring those same players to the new network and allow viewers a closer relationship with them. HeadsUp has guaranteed a world class product, and the launch is only months away, so be sure to tune in!
