No Limit Texas Holdem is the most commonly played form of online Poker, and easily one of the most exciting. Although its rules, objective, and betting rounds remain the same as Limit Texas Holdem and regular Holdem, its maximum bet is unlimited, placing much emphasis on bet making decisions. For this reason, it is always worth a regular player revisiting its rules and variations, and strengthening their understanding of the No Limit essentials.
No Limit Texas Holdem is by far the most widespread and popular variant of online Poker, made significantly fashionable by televised No Limit tournaments such as the World Series of Poker. The course of the game, rules and objective, are all exactly the same as Limit Texas Holdem, so anyone familiar with it will have no problems learning the No limit variation.
The difference between them, as the name suggests, is that in No Limit Texas Holdem there is no maximum bet. All players may bet or raise any amount they wish from the amount of chips they have in front of them. Minimum bets, however, are still used, so in a $4-8 No limit Holdem, players would have to bet at least $4 in the first two rounds, and at least $8 in the Turn and River. Additionally, all bets and raises must be equal to or greater than the previous bet or raise, not including players that are raising all in. In the case that a player bets more chips than another player has at the table, the player with less chips will not be forced out of the game. Rather, they will be required to place the number of chips they have left on the table (all-in). If no one else is in the pot, the bettor will have to take back his/her excess chips, and the hand will be played without any additional betting. Sometimes, when other players remain in the pot, a side pot is set up. If a player does raise all in, and the bet is smaller than the previous raise, then the original raiser will be unable to re-raise.
In a betting round in which player A bets $20, player B calls, and player C raises all in for a total that is less than $40, player A would not be able to re-raise that bet. Also, some online and offline casinos allow for unlimited amounts of raises to be made per betting round.
It is also important for players to remember that bringing chips to the table in the middle of a hand is not allowed in No Limit Holdem, yet adding chips to the table in between hands is.
