This week will be remembered in online poker history after the largest ever pay-out for an online tournament was won by a poker pro from Montana.
Tyson ‘potterpoker’ Marks won $2,278,097 by winning the PokerStars $5,200 WCOOP Main Event. He had to overcome a field of 2,443 players over two days before he could take home the huge prize.
The first day of the competition saw 2172 players knocked out; the second day saw the remaining 271 being reduced to the final nine. When there were just 27 players left Tyson had a short stack but then he quickly recovered and expanded his chips to the three times the number of his nearest rival.
Tyson said, “When I reached the final table it was weird because I felt so much more comfortable than when I was chip leader with like 13 left… there’s just something about final tables where I feel at home, like “it’s go time now” and all the butterflies were gone and the only thing on my mind was $2.2million!”
It didn’t take long for the players to start falling from the final table and it wasn’t long before Tyson was in a heads-up against ‘joeysweetp’ with a 5 -1 chip lead. In the final hand Tyson was dealt Ah-4h and made the nut flush on a Jh-8c-2h-Kh-10d board which placed his opponent firmly in second place, however, he also took home an impressive $1,404,725.
When asked about his huge win Tyson said, “Being able to say: “I’m online poker world champion” is something that still doesn’t feel real to say… I don’t feel like it’s going to change who i am at all. I have an amazing girl and friends and family who are amazing….this money is really just gravy.”
