After beating a field of 24 of the world’s top players, David Oppenheim won the Aussie Millions $25,000 Invitational to take home a top prize of $250,000.

David Oppenheim is already known for competing against the world’s top poker players and beating them in cash games held in Las Vegas. Recently he took his style of play to Australia and won the Aussie Millions Full Tilt Poker $25,000 Invitational Shootout, held at the Brown Casino in Melbourne, Australia.

In order to win he had to overcome a final table which around which were seated the talented players Howard Lederer, Patrik Antonius, Barny Boatman, Eli Elzra and World Series of Poker Europe champion James Bord.

Before reaching the final table each participant had to survive the first three heats with two players advancing to the next round. A total of 24 players were invited to take part in this special made-for television tournament.

In the first heat, Boatman and Oppenheim survived against Carlos Mortensen, James Akenhead, Tony G, Annette Obrestad, Mike Matusow and Gus Hansen. The second heat saw Bord and Antonius outlast Andrew Feldman, Jonathan Karamalikis, Billy Argyos, Phil Ivey, Nikolay Evdakov and David Menyamine. In the third heat Leder and Eleztra beat off Erik Cajelais, Van Marcus, Erick Lindgren, Andy Bloch, John Juanda and Tom Dwan.

Each of the finalists brought their chip stacks from the preliminary heats to the final table. At beginning of the day the table looked like this:

1: Howard Lederer — 153,700
2: Barny Boatman — 44,000
3: James Bord — 132,400
4: Patrik Antonius — 67,600
5: David Oppenheim — 156,000
6: Eli Elezra — 46,300
Elezra was the first to go during the second level of play at the final table. Bord rose to 4,500 pre-flop under the gun. Oppenheim made the call and Elezra went all in with 7,600. In the end Bord had QH, 10C and Oppenheimer had AC, QC. The board produced 9C, 8S, 4H, 5H, JC. Elezra took $30,000 in prize money.

Next to go was Antonius with $40,000 followed by Boatman with $50,000. This left Oppenheim, Bord and Lederer to battle it out for the final positions. Lederer was first to go knocked out by a hand from Oppenheim, he took home $80,000.

In the final heads up Bord held 169,000 and Oppenheim had a comfortable lead of 461,000. In the end it was a very short match taking less than half an hour. In the final hand Oppenheim raised to 30,000 pre-flop and Bord re-raised all in for 244,000. Bord called and they turned their cards over, Bord held AH, 8H and Oppenheim AS, 10D. The board showed AC, 5H, 2D, 2H 6S eliminating Bord. Bord took home $150,000 and Oppenheim took $250,000.
