For the very first time, China's island of Macau is set to host the Asian Pacific Poker Tour. Check out what's in store and details on how to enter here.
An international poker tournament has just been announced to take place for the very first time in the People's Republic of China on the tiny island of Macau! Established by PokerStars, the "PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour" (APPT) will feature a Poker Open Main Event of $2,500 buy-in.
According to the President of the APPT, Jeffrey Haas, the bringing of the poker tournament to Macau signifies not only the island's popularity as an international gaming destination, but also the arrival of a brand new "poker tourism" to the location. As such, the decision to hold the tournament there represents a major progression for both the APPT itself and the increase of Poker in Asia at large.
Marketing Director for PokerStars Asia Pacific, Sarne Lightman, agrees that Macau has today become "the Las Vegas of Asia," attracting interest from people both in and out of the poker industry worldwide. Lightman added that PokerStars' association with the APPT, among several other poker tournaments it is involved with, is just one of the many ways in which its players can be offered the rare chance to travel across the world for exciting poker play. The entire poker room staff is delighted at its ability to provide such opportunities to its players.
One of the main attractions in being part of this incredible experience is the fact that so many celebrated names in the poker industry are already scheduled to take part, including the esteemed "Team PokerStars". Additionally, there will be an exclusive High Rollers Event worth $15,000, for which entry can be gained only by winning other events or online satellites held daily at the PokerStars poker room.
The APPT in Macua is to be held at the Grand Waldo Hotel and casino, a five star resort offering excellent accessibility to this now sought-after destination. There, participants, their families and friends will be treated to high class wining and dining before hitting the long list of attractions waiting for them outside of the poker rooms, such as Chinese temples, lush gardens and eye-opening monuments.
The General Manager of the hotel, Gary Woollard, has expressed the hotel's excitement in taking part in this international event, as well as its commitment to contributing to its success.
