Justin Pechie has won the $1,500 buy in, limit hold ‘em shootout event to join the elite ranks of the WSOP

The $1,500 buy-in, Limit Hold’em Shootout Championship event at the 2011 World Series of Poker (WSOP) has been won by the 26 year old, professional poker player, Justin Pechie. This is his first World Series of Poker bracelet and he fought through an incredibly tough final table in order to gain the honour of receiving it. After beating a grand total of 538 players Pechie took the bracelet and $167,060 for first prize. In the wake of Black Friday Pechie has been looking to move to Canada in order to continue playing poker and decided to head off to Las Vegas for the WSOP while deciding what to do in the future.

It is fortunate for Perchie that he did make it out to the 2011 WSOP as he has now joined the elite ranks of the WSOP tournament winners as he says; “I almost did not come this year…I was going to set up some online stuff (in Canada) so I could continue to play there. So, I was not intending to come out this year. But I went ahead and decided to come out here for a month.” He now walks away from Vegas with a massive new bankroll in his pocket to set him up in his new poker endeavours.

This was the final Shootout tournament of the series and now all eyes turn to the Main Event. A shootout tournament is a tournament that sees players stay seated at the same table until they are the last ones standing. Once all tables only have one player left the second round begins as all of the winners are placed on new tables and start all over again until there is only one table left. To make it to the Final table of this event players were required to win two consecutive tables.

To make money players had to finish in the top 60, no mean feat, and there were plenty of pros and amateurs littering the field. The final table saw the 58 year old, retired fireman Dale Eberle, from Texas, take the second place position and a massive cheque for $103,454. Also present at the final table was Eugene Katchalov who has already won himself a winner’s bracelet this year in the $1,500 buy in Seven Card Stud event, had he won the Shootout he would have been the only player to win two bracelets this year.
