It seems that matrimonial bliss is over for one of the Poker world’s major celebrities. Phil Ivey who is currently considered the best Poker player in the world is folding his hand in marriage, according to TMZ.
The Poker pro is a multi millionaire and a heavyweight of the world Poker circuit married his wife of 7 years back in 2002; however the 33 year old and his estranged wife have both filed a petitions to end their union. The pair was officially granted a divorce on December 29th. The former couple has no children, making it easier for the courts to grant them the divorce.
Phil Ivey is the most prominent member of the Online Poker team sponsored by Full Tilt and has amassed notoriety and much success for his savvy tournament play. He made 8 table finals on the World Poker Tour and has accumulated an impressive 7 bracelets in the World Series of Poker. In the 2009 Main Event, Ivey managed to cash 7th place and is known for participating in high stake games, not only on the Vegas Circuit but also by playing through Full Tilt. For anyone who has ever witnessed Ivey in action, he really is a wonder to watch and brings an edge of extra excitement to the game.
It’s yet to be seen how his recent marriage breakdown will affect his game or if at all. It has been said more than once that Phil Ivey is the Tiger Woods of the Poker world, but with any luck his divorce will not attract the same negative media attention.
