In a remarkably short time Jamie “TheCronic420”Rosen has rose to fame as an online poker player, read about his life and how he has built such as strong reputation.
Every year the Card Player Online Player of the Year award celebrates the best tournament player across all the main online poker rooms from the current calendar year. Unsurprisingly it has been one by a number of big names in the past including Isaac “westmenloAA” Baron, Alexander “AJKHoosier1” Kamberis and Stever “gboro780” Gross.
This year Jamie “TheCronic420” Rosen looks to be a strong contender. So far in his career he has won over $2 million on his journey from dorm room player to one of the most highly respected online players around. He has also done well on the live circuit reaching three of the World Series of Poker final tables, however, this year he has done particularly well online making over $600,000 and is placed at number 15 in the OPOY rankings.
Rosen began playing poker whilst he was studying business administration at college in Indiana. He met a fellow student who was making a few thousand dollars a week playing online and was inspired to follow suit. At first he was unaware that poker theory existed and began playing without any knowledge of the game, after losing a few thousand he switched to smaller tournaments and slowly learnt how to play. He began studying the game and before long was succeeding in both land based and online tournaments.
Rosen said that in order to succeed in today’s game you have to be able to take flops. He says this requires planning for every possible outcome and continually re-evaluating the game as the board changes to find more ways of confusing your opponents. Once this is achieved Rosen believes that the cards almost become meaningless and your game becomes more and more successful.
Rosen lives in Las Vegas with Steve “gboro780” Gross, Eric “blizair” Blair and Andy “BKice” Seth, he says that since moving into live with them his game has vastly improved. He says that it is essential to receive other people’s perspective on the game and to always be able to learn more.
Due to his brother passing away Rosen took a few months of poker earlier this year. He went to spend time with his family in Florida and put poker in the backseat. He describes the time as the most difficult period in his life, nonetheless he remembers his brother fondly, in particular when he entered him in a tournament during which he managed to knockout Men “The Master” Nguyen.
