Take home more than just the pot with a re-steal. It’s a crucial and worthwhile move to know. Find the poker strategy here for re-steals in PLO tourneys
The ‘steal’ is a move unique to Poker, and involves raising with a weak hand during the first betting round in order to scare other players out of the game with a supposedly strong hand. The ‘re-raise,’ however, is a clever move made by more aggressive players in an attempt to catch out the original steal and, in the process, also win the antes, blinds and the raiser’s chips. Even if it is called, it still has a near 50% chance of winning the hand. The re-raise is an important option when playing Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) tournaments, because a lot of the money goes into the pre-flop and it is rare that a hand will ever be greatly better or worse than another. This is why your re-steal strategy should be different to your standard Texas Hold’em strategy. Follow the advice below for use of a re-steal in a standard 100 player PLO tourney online, with 15 minute intervals and a chip stack of $1,500.
1. During the first few levels of the tournament’s first hour, play tightly according to small blinds, and wait for the right moment to pounce.
2. Consider 3 things when making your re-steal; your hand, your position and the other players (the last 2 being the most important).
3. Re-stealing from a late position is most effective, since it eliminates the possibility of other players acting after you.
4. Your opposition is crucial in determining how profitable your re-steal will be. If your opponents are not likely to fold and yet will not always call you down, then it is not worth re-stealing. Additionally, opponents in a re-steal should not have more than just a little over the average chip stack in that tourney. Last of all, it is important to re-steal with hands that are still relatively strong against the table.
5. There are 2 suitable times in the tournament to try your re-steal:
a. The first is during the first hour’s last level of play, meaning that the blinds are $50/$100. You will want to fatten up your stack if you have between $2-3000.
b. The second is during the final table/final round, when there are a max of 12 players still in and are each holding $12-15,000 in chips.
