Poker at Christmas

Catch up with how your favourite poker professionals spent their Christmas’ and the struggles many had reaching home thanks to the heavy snow across Britain.

Like much of the world, poker players also celebrate Christmas with family and friends, although thanks to some bad weather a number of players found this quite tricky. The snow across England was the worst it has been for years, last week Lex Beldhuis and Evelyn Ng got stuck in the chaos at Heathrow Airport and had their flight delayed a day. However, they were able to fly the next day and were soon back in Las Vegas in time for Christmas.

UB.com’s player Scott Ian was also having some problems. To begin with the Dublin airport staff managed to check his luggage onto a cancelled flight and he was still waiting at the airport after 23 and a half hours, in the end though he did manage to get on a flight to L.A.

Greg “FBT” Mueller of Full Tilt Poker had a bit of a scare after he landed in Vancouver. They were informed that paramedics were rushing onto the plane and that everyone must remain seated. In the end there was a medical emergency but a few minutes after four medics had rushed on to the plane they were allowed to leave and he made it to his home.

After busting at the Atlantic City WSOP Circuit Regional Championships, Christian “charder30” Harder sounded like he really needed a break and some rest. He Tweeted that it was a “Pretty sucky ending to a pretty average year of poker”. However, after a few days of relaxation at home his Tweets changed tone and it seemed as if he was looking forward to the coming year.

Some players though weren’t taking a break, “Hollywood” Dave Stann headed to Atlantic City for the holidays where he intended to play some Stud poker at the Taj, he Tweeted “Come get you some old school action, bitches!”.

Poker philanthropists Linda Johnson and Jan Fisher were doing some charity work for the less fortunate, Fisher made an appeal for warm clothes and coats to give away whilst Johnson was helping run a special party for underprivileged families, she Tweeted “21 happy kids and their parents. Loved seeing the smiles”.

DoylesRoom captain Doyle Burnson ended off the year with a message on Twitter “Warning: Christmas Cancelled… @MandaLeatherman told Santa she had been a good girl in 2010. He died laughing.” Whilst Gavin Smith, Jennifer Harman and Annie Duke were all looking forward to spending time with their families.
