What is a Poker Freeroll?
A “poker freeroll” is a poker tournament in which players are not required to pay an entry fee or buy-in, yet are eligible to win cash and prizes if they win. In most cases a poker freeroll is a promotional tournament, and as such the prizes, if not monetary, will be entrance/tickets to a larger and more exclusive poker tournament and/or event.

How are Freerolls Entered?
Poker players can get access to freeroll tournaments in a number of ways. The first, and most frequent, is by reading the tournament schedule of their online/offline poker rooms, which outline all times, dates, and registration requirements. The second is by earning a specific number of comp points from playing poker online. The third is by qualifying as a certain category member, for example, women only. Many online poker rooms offer freeroll tournaments to newly registered players only, as part of their sign-up package. As long as one checks his/her poker room frequently, they can stay up to date on all the latest poker freerolls on offer.

How are Freeroll Prizes Obtained?
The terms and conditions for obtaining one’s winnings from a freeroll tournament will differ in each place one plays. Few sites/casinos will actually award you with your cash winnings straight away. They will usually require you to wager a minimum amount in other games before delivering it to you. In many places, this minimum will be approximately 20x the winning amount for small prize pools such as $50, yet a list of complicated conditions for larger prize-pools.
