Despite still being in the top 3 of the Biggest Online Earners Leaderboard, Tom “Durr” Dwan, one of the online Poker industry’s most reputable players, has lost an enormous $1m in profits!
Tom “Durrrr” Dwan is one of the best known online poker players particularly in the field of high stakes games. This week he continued with his famous Durrr challenge and was fairly successful, however, the challenge aside Dwan had one of his worst weeks yet loosing over $1 million.
The Durrrr challenge is open to everyone in the poker community; anyone who is willing to challenge him to 50,000 hands of four tabling heads-up online poker could win $1.5 million from Dwan if they come out on top. However, if Dwan wins you only need to pay him $500,000.
So far two people have accepted the challenge, Patrik Antonius and another online player who goes by the name of ‘jungleman12’. The competition with Antonius has been incredibly slow and Dwan is currently winning, ahead by $2 million. In the other challenge, jungleman12 has quickly gone ahead and is holding a lead of $600,000. This week the two players started another session but play was short, they stopped after twenty minutes with only 258 hands played. During this time Dwan managed to make over $30,000 in profits, although this is only a small step forward at least it is the right direction.
However, the rest of Dwan’s week was not quite as successful. Last Thursday he managed to lose over $550,000 most of it whilst playing heads-up $300/$600 Pot Limit Omaha against ‘casillac1944’ and $109,000 to poker pro Gus Hansen. He had a quiet weekend, but from Monday onwards he failed to win any money, until he finally called it quits having lost over a million.
Whilst to most people this seems like a vast amount to lose in a week, Dwan won’t be too upset as he has so far made around $4 million profit this year. Currently he is still number 3 in the 2010 biggest online earners leaderboard with $2.9 million. Funnily enough, before this week Dwan was number one on the list, and the person who has replaced him is none other than Durrrr challenge rival jungleman12.
