World famous poker room at Caesars prestigious venue for NBC Poker Tournament. Professional players vie avidly for place at $20,000 buy-in poker tournament.
The National Heads-up poker tournament, the most prestigious event in the poker championships will be hosted by Caesars Palace for the next four years, NBC announced to the press, much to the delight of both professional players and fans. Caesars Palace is a top venue for amateur and professional players and are very excited about adding this additional attraction to its annual events calendar.
The world famous poker room at Caesars Palace will see plenty of action as it once again hosts the National Heads-up poker tournament. The tournament debuted in 2005 at the Golden Nugget and gained an international reputation. Professional players anxiously await an invite to this glamorous event which amongst the players is considered to be the event of the year.
Jon Miller, executive vice president of NBC Sports said that its affiliation with Caesars Palace has produced top participants who draw crowds and a wide television audience. From the start of the 64-player, single elimination poker tournament, it has gained in stature and prestige. Players have to win six matches in order to take the title. The National Heads-Up Poker Championship is a $20,000 buy-in tournament. Gary Selesner, president of Caesars Palace says, “We are proud to be the home of such a popular tournament for four more years.” The event will be aired on NBC on Sundays in two hour segments throughout April and May, this year's event ended with a three hour finale. The poker tournament has very high television ratings according to NBC.
Twice runner-up, Chris Ferguson took the title in this year's National Heads-Up Poker championship by defeating Andy Bloch in the championship match. Other note worthy past winners are Paul Wasicka who won the title in 2007, Ted Forrest winner of the 2006 championship and Phil Hellmuth Jr winner of the first championship in 2005. Between these four winners they have 21 World Series of Poker Bracelet and a whopping $28 million in poker tournament winnings. Some other poker stars who also participated in this year's event include Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, Daniel Negreanu and Sam Farha.
