Great opportunity for South African players

As poker becomes more and more popular in South Africa more tournament series are beginning to visit there, so far the World Poker Tour Marrkech and the Sun City Million dollar Poker Tournament have visited, this year it’s the turn of the WSOP

Every since its launch, the WSOP (World Series of Poker) has been a huge success with people travelling in from all over the world in order to take part. A good example of this is a man called Raymond Rahme who managed to astound people in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker 2007. After fending off many competitors, Raymond came in third place and although he arrived back home in South Africa without the title or a bracelet, he did come home triumphal with an extra three million dollars.

Raymond’s story is just one example of how popular poker has become with amateur players and the success they can have. Amateur players in South Africa will soon be feeling fulfilled as the World Series of Poker is planning a visit to South Africa. They are going to be holding a tournament at the Emerald Casino Resort in south Johannesburg between the 24th and 31st of October of this year. The people organizing this tournament are expecting over five hundred expert poker players to come and take part in the No Limit Texas Hold’em Main Event. The buy-in for this event is € 5,000 and players will have 40,000 chips for one hour of playing time.

African poker players must be excited about the WSOP visiting their homeland as it will give them an unprecedented opportunity to meet and play with some of the most famous professional players in the game. For those who do not manage to enter the Main Event, there will also be a sit in Pot Limit Omaha Rebuy with a € 1,100 + € 300 buy-in. This is not the first major poker event to take place in Africa, in recent years they have also held the World Poker Tour Marrakech in 2009 and the Sun City Million Dollar Poker Tournament in South Africa during December of 2008, the World Series of Poker South Africa 2010 though is a step up and will surely carry the most excitement due to its prestige and large prize funds.
