Tom “durrrr” Dwan is one of the leading players of online poker, however, this week has been tough he lost three quarters of his profits from the week before
This week saw many ups and downs in the world of online poker and high stakes player Tom Dwan saw a big drop in his profits as he lost over $785,000. He played over 7,400 hands at Full Tilt Poker’s high stakes $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha and $2000/$4000 Limit Hold’em tables during which he lost about three quarters of the $969,000 he made the week before. The good thing for Dwan is that he didn’t lose any money in his Durrr Challenge against Patrik Antonius, where he is still nearly $2 million up.
If you play as much as Tom “durrrr” Dwan then you are going to have large swings back and for, however, for this year Dwan is still nearly $4 million up at the Full Tilt Poker tables. One of the biggest winners of his money last week was Scott “URnotINdanger2” Palmer who won nearly half a million in one of his best weeks ever.
David Oppenheim and Gus Hansen also lost this week , $600,000 and $400,000 respectively which makes Dwan’s losses stand out more. However, Dwan is really having a much better year than Hansen who is down $1.2 million over all. Over the coming months we could see Tom Dwan really increase on his profit margins for this year now that the lull in playing due to the World Series of Poker is over.
Since February of last year Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius have been fighting in the 50,000 hand marathon bet known as the Durrr Challenge, which is worth $1.5 million to Antonius if he can beat Dwan by a dollar. At the moment Dwan is comfortably ahead with a $2 million dollar lead. However, the players haven’t met in months to have a serious session of poker and it looks like the remaining 10,000 hands of play may take some time to complete.
Antonius has had a good month so far and he may be looking to complete the challenge soon so he can take advantage of the positive momentum he is feeling in his direction. In the mean time Dwan has been challenged to another Durrr challenge by Daniel “Jungleman 12” Cates. Cates has been making a name for himself over the last year or so and has challenged many of the big names in online poker making over $2.5 million in profits this year. Although Dwan’s current challenge is not over, he is likely to be spending some time playing now as the live tournament season is over and despite his recent losses he is still the man to beat in the world of high stakes online poker.
