PokerStars have just launched a new Twitter Poker League (#tpoker) which features 8 week long tournaments with low buy ins and great prizes
If you’re a fan of Twitter and online poker you now have the chance to combine the two thanks to a new competition being launched by PokerStars on June 6th in which there is $25,000 worth of prizes to be won!
The new Twitter Poker League features low buy ins of only $1.10 in their weekly Texas Hold’em tournaments which will run for 8 weeks with bi-monthly prizes being given away.
After 2 months the tournament begins again, however, the points are carried forwards. This shall continue until January of next year. Then there will be a final for league table prize winners where they have the chance to win part of the $17,000 prize pool.
There was a launch event held in honor of the new Twitter league at a London Casino. The event was an evening of Poker Stars. Upon arrival guests were offered drinks and enjoyed the company of some impersonators, they included Captain Jack Sparrow, Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Patsy Stone.
Also present was Vicky Coren, a professional poker player who is part of PokerStars. There were then a series of poker games in which the professionals took part and helped the rest out a bit. The evening’s poker tournament was won by Seamus McCauley in the end. It was a great publicity event which really showed how Twitter is hoping to become part of the online poker world. There were also a number of Tweets made about the poker games as they were being played. Whilst it was good fun, it is perhaps not the best strategy for winning in most situations.
To find out more about the new Twitter Poker League go to the PokerStars Blog and also, don’t forget that you can now follow them on Twitter. It looks like it is going to be an excellent competition, with great prizes and good poker games. It is now in the second week and it certainly looks as though the next six weeks are going to be full of truly exciting poker.
