Amongst all the stars at the WSOP Peter Eastgate has been conspicuously absent, he says that he is only interested in the Main Event

If you take a walk around Rio, the home of the World Series of Poker, you are sure to see a few faces that you recognise from the television. One of the great things about poker is that your average amateur player gets to come face to face with the professionals on a fairly regular basis. Players such as Phily Ivery, Daniel Negreanu from the PokreStars Team Pro, Gus Hansen or Joe Cada who won last year’s main event, the professionals are always around for the WSOP. However, one face we were expecting to see has not yet showed up, Peter Eastgate.
Eastgate won the 2008 Main Event and he says that he will be returning for another chance at winning millions of dollars but that most events don’t interest him. “I’ll be at the WSOP in time for day 1D of the Main Event. At first I was meant to play the $25,000 tournament (6-max) on June 30, which would suit me well because of its buy-in, format and challenge. Under normal circumstances I would have played it, but there are several reasons why I have postponed my departure from Europe.”
Eastgate is a huge football fan so of course the main reason for him delaying his trip is because he was in South Africa for the 2010 World Cup.
The Danish player won on to say, “”Secondly, I prefer the summer in Europe rather than the one in Nevada where temperatures can reach up to 50c degrees during the day. And finally, I don’t have the motivation to play all the small events at the WSOP. That would be a waste of money. To me it’s not that important to win bracelet number two.”
Perhaps he would be thinking differently if he hadn’t already won the best bracelet of them all.
