Joe Cada went on to defeat Darvin Moon at the Main Event at the World Series of Poker in a victory worth a staggering $8.55 million
One lucky player had a great deal to celebrate last week after winning the Main Event at the World Series of Poker. The 21 year old player, Joe Cada, has become the youngest player to scoop the top prize worth a staggering $8.55 million in addition to the prestigious Main Event bracelet. Cada defeated his opponent, Darvin Moon, to take home the enormous cash prize whilst Moon returned with an equally astounding $5.2 million after a fierce battle of wits.
The exciting head to head featured a series of ups and downs for both players. Moon entered the final table with as the lead in the chips but chose not to sit on his chips and went for some ill advised bluffs. Cada, meanwhile, played a tough tournament and managed to survive a series of nail biting all-ins on his way to the Main Event finale. At several points, Cada was an80%-20% underdog before pursuing an aggressive pre-flop in the final table.
Other players also enjoyed a dangerous game. Phil Ivey surprised many of his fans by finishing in a disappointing seventh place following a defeat by Moon. Ivey found himself card dead for the majority of the final table before his opponent called from the big blind with a strong A and Q, catching a queen on the flop to oust a disappointed Ivey. Other poker fans were bemused by the inconsistent performance of Antoine Saout who finished third in the event. Cada, meanwhile, will be sharing his $8.55 million with his two principle backers who helped contributed the$10,000 entry fee. Cada has since become one of the youngest ambassadors for online poker and is fast becoming a face recognised by poker enthusiasts across the globe. Other avid players will no doubt be counting down to next year where they will hope to follow in Cada’s brilliant footsteps.
