The WPT have just signed seasoned tour director Matt Savage as part of their attempts to become the best poker tour available
The World Poker Tour has made its staff even stronger through the signing off tournament director Matt Savage. Savage will have the role of Executive Tour Director which will see him liaising between the organisation and the players. Savage will be responsible for improving player communication, tournament offerings, tour cohesiveness and the general growth of the WPT. The ninth season of the WPT will begin on July 11th with the Bellagio Cup VI in Las Vegas and they are hoping to make the best tour in the world of tournament poker.
Steve Heller, the Chief Executive Officer of the WPT said that, “Matt is one of the world’s foremost experts on poker tournaments, Matt’s expertise and relationships in the poker community will greatly enhance our upcoming ninth season.”
Savage said that he is, “excited about this opportunity to work with WPT as their Executive Tour Director. The World Poker Tour is one of the most respected and recognizable brands in poker and I am happy to be a part of its efforts to improve tournament poker for players, fans and casinos.”
Savage would like anyone with any thoughts, concerns or ideas for the WPT to contact him and help him with his new job. This is just one of numerous directing roles that Savage has, however, he does not expect the new job to interfere with his current work. He recently confirmed on Twitter that he will still be overseeing tournaments in San Jose and Los Angeles plus the Detox Poker Series at the Hard Rock.
The poker community seems incredibly happy at the appointment of Savage to his new role. Players including Adam “Roothlus” Levy, Christian Harder, Alex Outhred, and DoylesRoom Brunson 10 member Amit “amak316” Makhija have sent him their congratulations.
When not running tournaments it is not unusual to see Savage taking part in a few games, he was recently asked whether he’d rather be a top professional poker player or the best tournament director around, his response was, “One is attainable (for me) and the other is not! I’ll stick to what I am best at.”
This is not Savage’s first involvement with the WPT, for a long time he has been tournament director at Bay 101 which includes its WPT event, the Shooting Star No Limit Hold’em bounty event.
